Play to reforest Amazonia
Lavazza Arena is the new Roblox game launched by Lavazza. It presents the first-ever deforested soccer field in the history of video games in the Metaverse.
Every 20 seconds, a soccer field-sized area of the Amazon rainforest disappears. And that's what you'll find in Lavazza Arena: a completely deforested field. The more you play, the more the Lavazza Arena will be reforested, the more you'll help the Lavazza Foundation supporting Cesvi planting 1000 Amazon nut trees in the Amazon rainforest.
Roblox is one of the many Metaverse worlds - a universe, or rather a combination of 3D and mixed reality virtual worlds focused on social connections that allow people to interact and experience across distances in real-time. It is a storefront with a collection of more than 50 million games, all created by the gaming community. It combines gaming and social interactions: it enables you to create your own world, but also visit other universes and interact through your avatar with other players all over the world.

The game is inspired by a Lavazza Foundation project in Peru.
In the Madre de Dios region of Peru, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, the Lavazza Foundation is engaged in a program of reforestation of the territory in collaboration with the Peruvian Ministry of the Environment, local and indigenous communities and Cesvi, a non-governmental organization that has been active over 20 years with specific projects in these areas.
This project has two main objectives: to promote the conservation of the existing forest heritage, through direct supervision by the indigenous communities, thus becoming the "guardians of the forest". They carry out the cultivation of new plants in degraded areas, with particular attention given to the conservation and planting of Amazon walnut trees (Bertholletia excelsa), a very precious environmental resource, as it is a tree that can grow up to 50 meters in height, live up to 700 years and store about 64,000 kg of CO2 during its life.
The project also has a strong social component, as it promotes the collection, processing, and marketing of local natural products such as the Amazon walnut and the planting of fruit trees, which for indigenous communities can represent both a source of self-consumption and an opportunity for economic income. So far, this activity has already allowed the preservation of over 30,000 hectares of virgin forest and the protection of four local communities, as well as the reforestation of 295 hectares of land and the improvement of the food, social and economic conditions of 570 inhabitants of the area, thanks to the installation of 25 hectares of agroforestry systems.
In recent years, the Lavazza Foundation has stepped up the development of various projects along with Cesvi to support reforestation, a growing problem in all coffee-producing countries. In partnership with non-governmental organizations and institutions with an international profile, the Foundation is now active on this front in Ethiopia and Peru with dedicated initiatives, and in Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Colombia with sustainability projects which includes the cultivation of new plants. Through these activities, the Lavazza Foundation has made it possible to plant over 15 million coffee plants between 2015 and 2020.
